In October 2008, I went to Bangkok, Thailand to document for The Well, an organization that works with former sex slaves.

What I quickly discovered was that this issue is very real, and is very complex. Too many women, most often due to the fact that there is no safety net in society and that the eldest child is responsible for the financial well-being of a family unit, fall victim to the sex trade.

Most do not enjoy what they do, and their personal stories are horrifying.

Imagine this: lined up with other girls, you wear a number on your chest. This number, depending on your looks and experience, determine how much you are worth.

The Well is an organization that brings women out of sex slavery and their transformation is both beautiful and inspiring.
